What is Robofest?
Robofest is an annual autonomous robotics competition focusing on
learning STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology
and
Math) for students in grades 5 - 12. Students design, construct and
program their robots while learning
problem-solving
techniques, mathematics, logic,
creativity,
physics, electronics, mechanics, teamwork, computers and computer
programming.
Started at Lawrence Tech in 2000,
Robofest has grown rapidly.
The 4th Annual Houston regional event will include
both a Junior
(5th-9th grade) and Senior (9th-12th grade) level
Game
competition as well as an Exhibition.
This year's competition will also include RoboFashion (5th-9th grade).
For
the competetion
team sizes are small (ideal size is
4-6), and teams
use 2 robots to perform their challenge and can use any programming
language to
perform their tasks. Robots can be built
from any type of
materials. For the Exhibition each team has complete freedom to
show
off
any creative autonomous robotics project. For
2008, there will be
two Exhibition Divisions, one Junior and one Senior and one
division
for RoboFashion.
Qualifying teams from our regional event will be invited to attend the World Robofest Championship: April 26, 2008 at Lawrence Tech, MI
We'll need teams, volunteers, judges and sponsors. Students
from all over TX are invited to participate.
Robofest
encourages all
types of teams; homeschools, private schools, public schools,
neighborhood groups,
civic groups, clubs, churches, scouts,
etc.
Watch for updates for team registration and event information.

When does team registration close? Team registration for Robofest events closes 2 weeks prior to the event you plan to participate in, or when space fills up (whichever comes first), but teams are encouraged to not wait until the last minute to sign up. When teams register early it helps encourage participation by other potential teams for your division, it also helps with planning and scheduling of teams for your event and helps promote interest in your local community.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Registration for our Saturday, March 1st workshop is
now closed. Thanks everyone for your interest.
Other workshops can be scheduled in the future as interest is
expressed. Feel free to contact us.
Robofest
Workshop and Information Meeting (Houston, TX area) -
Saturday, January 26, 2008
The 2008 season for Robofest is starting and we are giving
workshops
for Robofest teams and those interested in learning more about Robofest
and robotics in general. The first one is scheduled for Saturday,
January 26th and will take place in the Houston area.
Texas participation in Robofest is growing. The Texas
regionals will
take place during the first weeks of April. The workshops are to help
you get ready for the competition. All potential students, coaches,
parents and volunteers are invited to attend. We will explain what
Robofest is, go over the rules, show past competitions, and answer
questions. We will also have follow up workshops covering programming
on the NXT Robot.
Robofest is an annual autonomous robotics competition for
students in
grades 5 - 12. Robofest challenges teams of students to design, build,
and program robots to compete in playful missions and exhibitions.
Students have fun while learning computer programming, engineering,
math, and science.
Team registration opens in January. Robofest is very
affordable. In
keeping with that, for the January 26th workshop we are requesting a
contribution of $10 per person that will go towards facility use and
workshop expenses. But please don't let finances prevent you from
attending if you are interested.
Please RSVP to robofest@jsoft.com
by Friday,
January 18th so we know how many to plan for.
